University Museum Fernando Del Paso

About the museum

The museum was conceived as a tribute and acknowledgement to the writer and artist Fernando Del Paso, for the generous donation he made in 2002 of his artistic production to our house of studies.

Composed of approximately 2,350 pieces of sculpture, drawing, installation, models and paintings, this collection gave birth to our museum and has been part of our exhibition projects since it was opened to the public in 2011, as part of the rich cultural heritage of our university community and society in general.

It is also a space for the creation, experimentation and dissemination of emerging proposals of art and the younger generations of art producers. The aim is to encourage dialogue between the established and the new ideas, thus promoting the construction of knowledge and significant learning among our audiences, within the framework of reflection and leisure that strengthen the spirit.

The facilities of the Fernando del Paso University Museum are located in an old 18th century mansion in the historic centre of Colima, known as the House of the Seven Towns, which at that time served as an inn for day labourers from nearby towns who came temporarily to work on the construction of roads and bridges in what was to become the incipient town of Colima.
